However, surviving underwater isn't as easy as it looks on TV. In this guide, we will teach you the basics of how to start, what to craft, and how to avoid Plankton’s evil schemes.
1. Spawning in Bikini Bottom
When you first load into the world, you will usually spawn near Conch Street (where SpongeBob, Squidward, and Patrick live). Before you start exploring, you need to understand the environment.
Water Breathing Mechanics
Depending on which version of the mod you are playing, water breathing works differently. In most SpongeBob mods, your character is given a permanent Water Breathing effect. However, if you venture too high up (out of the water), you might start taking damage from "drying out." Stay submerged!
2. Essential Tools and Crafting
Forget diamond pickaxes for a moment. In Bikini Bottom, the tools are a little different.
The Jellyfish Net
This is the most important tool you can craft early on. To make a net, you usually need sticks and string (or specific mod items).
How to use it: Find a Jellyfish Fields biome. Aim at a pink jellyfish and right-click (or tap). You will catch the jellyfish and usually get Jelly.
The Golden Spatula
This is your primary weapon and tool. While a sword works, the Spatula often has special knockback abilities, perfect for fighting off robotic enemies created by Plankton.
3. Food and Currency
You can't survive on apples and steak down here. You need underwater grub.
Krabby Patties
The ultimate food source. To get these, you usually have two options:
- Buy them: Go to the Krusty Krab and trade with Mr. Krabs or Squidward.
- Cook them: Some mods allow you to craft the "Secret Formula" (usually a complex recipe involving buns, meat, and secret sauce).
Earning Money (Sand Dollars)
Most SpongeBob mods have an economy system. You can earn money by:
- Completing quests for NPCs (like finding Patrick’s lost rock).
- Selling Jellyfish Jelly to Kevin the Sea Cucumber.
- Working a shift at the Krusty Krab.
4. Dangerous Mobs to Watch Out For
It's not all fun and games. There are enemies that want to send you to Davy Jones' Locker.
The Dirty Bubble & Man Ray
These are boss mobs. Do not approach them without armor. They usually spawn in "Evil" biomes or caves.
Plankton's Robots
If you see a robot with a bucket head, attack it immediately! They drop useful metal parts that you can use to craft Boatmobiles later on.
5. Survival Tips for Beginners
- Explore Sandy's Treedome: This is usually a safe haven where you can find air and "surface" trees for wood.
- Check Rock Bottom: It is dark and scary, but the loot chests in Rock Bottom usually contain rare items. Bring a flashlight or torches!
- Talk to Everyone: NPCs like Larry the Lobster often give strength buffs if you talk to them.
